Prof. Dr. Günter Emberger

The traffic planner, grew up in Upper Carinthia, went to school in East Tyrol and Carinthia and worked as a carpenter/technician in North Tyrol and Lower Austria. After working for a few years, he started his studies of business informatics at the University of Vienna. He financed his studies by working at the Institute for Traffic Planning and Traffic Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology under the direction of Prof. Hermann Knoflacher.

Almost 30 years later (2017), after having completed his doctoral studies in social and economic sciences, his habilitation in the field of transport planning, several years of stays abroad and more than 70 national and international projects on the topic of humane and environmentally sound transport planning, Günter Emberger was appointed Head of the Research Department for Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. In his projects, publications, lectures and university courses, the focus is always on people, human scale and ecology. Holistic approaches to the system of traffic, people, economy and environment have always characterized the underlying value system for teaching and research.
